Though similar to orders, the inventory tracking of credit memos differs from that for orders; instead, credit memos are treated similarly to POs. When created a two-step credit memo increases the quantity on credit memo (Q-CM) without affecting quantity on hand (Q-On Hand) or quantity available (Q-Avail). When a credit memo is moved to fulfillment to print the RMA there is no change to any of Q-CM, Q-On Hand or Q-Avail. Then when the goods on a credit memo are received from the customer the credit memo is moved to invoice. This causes the Q-CM to be reduced, and the Q-On Hand and Q-Avail increased, similarly to the receipt of goods on a PO.
Two-Step Credit Memos in Order or Fulfillment Status
- Credit memos in order or fulfillment status are treated exactly the same as Q-PO until the goods are received from the customer and the credit memo invoiced.
- Create a two-step credit memo CM89715 for return of 2 EA x I200B-NPT-1.50 sold on invoice 89715 and save.

- Product I200B-NPT-1.50 prior to the credit memo, had both Q-On Hand and Q-Avail equal to 30 EA.
- Creation of the two-step credit memo CM89715 increases Q-CM by 2 EA and neither Q-On Hand nor Q-Avail are affected.

- When the two step credit memo is moved to fulfillment to print the RMA, Q-CM is unchanged and Q-On Hand and Q-Avail are unaffected.
- When the goods are received, the two step credit memo is moved to invoice.

Credit Memos Invoiced
- When the credit memo is invoiced, it reduces Q-CM by 2 EA, and increases Q-On Hand by 2 from 30 to 32 EA, which automatically increases Q-Avail to 32 EA.

Immediate Credit Memos
- An Immediate Credit Memo is created then invoiced in one step.
- When an Immediate Credit Memo is invoiced it immediately increases Q-On Hand by the quantity of the products returned, which automatically increases Q-Avail by the same amount.
- So, an Immediate Credit Memo never goes to the Q-CM bucket.
